There are 3 main characters: the young cadet (played by Nam Joo-hyuk), the commander (played by Jo In-Sung) and the Tang emperor (played by Park Sung-woong). If anything, this movie was a treat with epic sword-fighting, hand-to-hand fight scenes, slow-motion 360 degree panoramas of skull-wrecking, limb-cleaving quadruple-kills. Here are my thoughts after watching all the way through: ***Spoilers below*** Yang Man-chun, the commander of Ansi Fortress needs to beat all odds in order to stave off the invasion with only 5,000 men. In seventh-century Korea, the Tang Emperor, Li Shimin lays siege on Ansi Fortress with 200,000 men. The plot on first read looked interesting for a solid historical war movie with a unique plot summary. So I figured I would give the film a go and wait to be blown away. Other than Jo In-Sung (‘ Something Happened in Bali‘ (2004), ‘ That Winter, the Wind Blows‘ (2013), ‘ A Dirty Carnival‘ (2004)), the film included Nam Joo-hyuk (‘ Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo‘ (2016), ‘ Cheese in the Trap‘ (2016)), and Park Sung-woong (‘ Man to Man‘ (2017), ‘ When the Devil Calls Your Name‘ (2019)). Lo and behold, I took a look at the cast and it starred some of my favorite actors. After poking around, I found out that the Korean title was ‘Ansi-seong’, which literally translates into ‘Ansi Fortress’, which I think would have been a much more enticing title. I noticed a picture of Jo In-sung in the thumbnail. I was browsing Netflix a few days ago and was in the mood for some juicy, satisfying Korean historical action flick. gestreckt und eigentlich bis auf einige Plotcheckpoints die etwas unkreativ abgeklappert werden hat man nur Non stop Action.Here is my review of ‘ The Great Battle‘, the Korean historical movie that came out in 2018. Wenn dann die Generäle auch noch in 300 Manier in Slow Motion und 360 Grad Kamera Leute aufspießen, dann ejakuliert das Testosteronmonster das in jedem von uns steckt gleich mal ohne Vorwarnung in die Hose.ĭas passiert auch noch über 130 min. Strategie, Taktik, Emotion und Aufopferung ist alles im Paket vorhanden. Das Gemetzel ist gewaltig, es fühlt sich erschütternd an und erinnert nicht nur manchmal an John Woo's grandiosem Red Cliff, oder The Admiral. Hier ein Heer aus 200.000 Menschen und dort ein paar tausend.
aber Gottverdammt war das ein geiler Schlachtfilm. Um fair zu bleiben ist das eigentlich nur eine 7/10, da die Story sehr generisch ist, die Geschichte ziemlich verfälscht (und Chinesen als böse darstellt, obwohl es zu der Zeit eine koreanische Familie war die in China an der Macht war) und die Charakterentwicklung mehr als vorhersehbar.
